RANGER ABILITIES

(05) BOW BONUS: Ethan adds +1 to attack rolls when using any bow other than a crossbow.

(10) EMPATHY WITH ANIMALS: When dealing with a domestic or non-hostile animal, Ethan can approach said animal and befriend it automatically. He also can discern the health and nature of such animals. When approaching wild animals or those trained to attack, an animal must make a saving throw against rods to resist the ranger's friendly overtures, at -1 to the die roll per three levels of Ethan's experience.

(05) HIDE IN SHADOWS: Ethan can Hide in Shadows, as per the thief ability, in natural surroundings if he is wearing studded leather or lighter armor. His current base chance of success is 25 percent. He can attempt to use this ability in other settings (musty crypt, city, et cetera), but the chance of success is halved.

(05) MOVE SILENTLY: Ethan can Move Silently, as per the thief ability, in natural surroundings if he is wearing studded leather or lighter armor. His current base chance of success is 33 percent. He can attempt to use this ability in other settings (musty crypt, city, et cetera), but the chance of success is halved.

(10) PRIEST SPELLS: Ethan can learn Priest spells from the animal and plant spheres when he reaches the 8th level of experience. Spell progression is listed on table 21, page 50, PO: Skills and Powers. He does not gain bonus spells for an exceptional Wisdom attribute score.

(05) SPEAK WITH ANIMALS: Ethan can converse with normal and giant-sized animals (non-monster classes) once per day, as per the Druidic ability.

(10) SPECIAL ENEMY: Rangers focus their efforts on one particularly bothersome type of creature. A ranger must choose this "special enemy" before reaching 2nd-level, with gamemaster approval. From that point on, Ethan gains +4 to all attack rolls against that type of creature. Ethan can attempt to hide the enmity he feels for these creatures, but suffers a -4 penalty to reaction rolls against his "special enemies." Further, Ethan will seek out these creatures in combat, unless there is some obvious, greater danger.

(05) TRACKING PROFICIENCY: The ranger gains the tracking proficiency, and the character's tracking ability automatically improves by +1 per three levels of experience. As a ranger, he also receives an automatic +5 bonus to the base rating score for tracking.

(05) TWO-WEAPON STYLE: A ranger can fight with a weapon in each hand and suffer no penalties to attack rolls. No shield can be used when he fights in this manner. If he wears armor heavier than studded leather, standard penalties for the two-weapon style apply (-2 to attack rolls with right hand, -4 with left).

-Ethan suffers a -2 penalty to attack rolls when wielding weapons in which he has no proficiency.
